If you're into the Fitness Niche you would know that social media influencers play a huge role into how we perceive ourselves. What if social media didn't exist? There are a lot of good things that come with social media but there are also very detrimental aspects to the influencer world. If social media didn't exist would you change the way you looked at yourself? Would you have more confidence? Would you compare yourself to others?

I am guilty of harshly judging myself at times. When I decided that I wanted to get fit and be healthy, my first thought was to follow all of the fitness pages I could find. MISTAKE number one! By following all of the fitness model accounts I began to look at my body image so differently. I thought that I had to look exactly like "these" girls to be happy. I started to change my diet and go to the gym A LOT. I honestly just copied the majority without being educated. I pushed myself to become the leanest I had ever been only weighing 89 lbs. After seeing my baby abs poke through I became so excited.

Then I started seeing posts about the "slim thick" generation. You were considered beautiful if you had a skinny waist and a large peach. Well at this point I had a pretty unnoticeable peach. So guess what I did? I became obsessed with gaining weight again but only in the right areas. MISTAKE number two! I worked out everyday and gorged myself with so much food just to gain muscle on my legs and bum.

The point is that I was never satisfied and it wasn't healthy. I was always bashing the way my body looked in certain clothes to the point where I would cry because I strongly disliked my appearance. And then it happend.

I started gaining knowledge in fitness and health by reading books and learning the science behind everything from experienced personnel.

Just by being educated I was able to look at my appearance so much differently. Instead of focusing my attention on how others view me my journey transformed into focusing how I viewed myself. It was not as important to me if I had the leanest muscles but rather if what I was doing was beneficial for my health physically, mentally and even emotionally. My concerns switched from limited eating and idolizing social media to eating healthy and recognizing the best parts of me.

I encourage you to first love yourself. If you are deciding to make a change in your life not only health changes but even lifestyle changes, getting a new job, plastic surgery, anything really, please be educated. Do not fall into peer pressure. Most importantly do not compare yourself to others! Deciding to live a healthier lifestyle essentially means feeling healthy in ALL aspects. We can all benefit from a little change and improvement as long as it is done for the right reasons.

Here are some of my favorite books that really helped me change my self image and become more of a powerful thinker!
